Picture Frame Trays

Create a one of a kind serving tray with an ordinary picture frame, drawer knobs, and fabric.

Materials

11" x 14" picture frame

One fat quarter of fabric

Spray adhesive

Four drawer knobs

Two drawer pulls

Drill

Acrylic ruler

Craft or wood glue

Heavy wire cutters

Twine

Scissors

Pen or pencil

Instructions

Remove the glass and back from the frame. Draw a line from point to corner on the back of the frame.

Place a mark on the frame 1" from the point and drill a hole 3/4" deep.

Cut the heads off of all the drawer knob screws.

Fill the hole with craft glue and turn the screw into the hole leaving about 3/4" inch above the frame.

Apply craft glue to the screw and turn the knob onto the screw until it is tight against the frame.  Repeat steps 1-5 for each corner of the frame.

Turn the frame over and adjust the knobs so the tray sits on the table without rocking.  Turn the knobs in or out to level the tray.  Snip the heads off the drawer pull screws.  Place the screws into the pulls and tighten them with a pair of pliers. Center the pulls on the side of the tray.  Use the acrylic ruler to mark where the holes should be drilled.  Drill the holes and fill them with glue.  Attach the draw pull to the tray by pushing the screws into the holes. If the holes are too tight for the screws, ream the holes a little bit with the drill.

Cut a piece of fabric the same size as the back of the frame.  Press the fabric and set it aside.  Spray the inside of the frame back with adhesive.

Adhere the fabric to the frame back.

Put the back on the frame and secure it with the brads.

Wrap the handles with natural twine and tie the ends into a knot at the top center of the handle.

Here is another tray example.  This one was created with a floating frame.  Two prints were placed between two pieces of glass.  The handles have fruit designs to match the fruit in the prints.  Use your imagination to create the perfect tray for your home.
