Dish towels are a wonderful medium to create quick and easy decorating accents for your home.  The edges are already hemmed so they save sewing time.  Dish towels are made in a variety of colors and prints so you can choose towels that coordinate with your home dιcor style.  Add interest to the towels with ribbons and buttons. Below are the instructions for two quick and easy dish towel pillows that can be completed in just a few minutes.

Instructions for the Neck Roll Pillow

1.  Place the dish towel on your work surface with the back side facing up.

2.  Place the pillow form lengthwise in the center of the towel.

3.  Wrap the towel around the pillow.  Pin the edges of the towel where they overlap.

4.  Place a cardboard circle inside the towel next to the end of the pillow form.

5.  Scrunch the towel at the base of the pillow and place a rubber band over the fabric.

6.  Repeat step 4 & 5 for the other end of the pillow.

7.  Adjust the rubber bands so that both ends of the towel are equal.

8.  Cut the ribbon into two equal halves.  Tie a piece of ribbon over the top of each rubber band.  Optional: carefully cut the rubber bands and remove them from the pillow.

9.  Remove the pins from the back of the pillow

Instructions for the Rectangle Pillow

1.  Fold the dish towel in half lengthwise and press along the fold line.

2.  Cut a piece of ribbon 32 inches long.  Sew the ribbon to the center of the towel.  Note:  Use the pressed line as a guide for the ribbon.  Turn the ribbon under at each end of the towel so the raw edge of the ribbon is not exposed.

3.  Place the dish towel on your work surface with the back side facing up.

4.  Place the pillow form in the center of the towel.  Wrap the towel snuggly around the pillow and pin the edges where they overlap.

5.  Slide the pillow form out and set it aside.  Hint: The towel will look like an envelope with the flap pined closed.

6.  Sew both sides of the towel together 2 Ύ inches in from the outside edges.

7.  Remove the pins from the overlapped edges of the towel.  Open the flap and insert the pillow form.

8.  Use the remaining ribbon to tie a bow.  Stitch or glue the bow to the front of the pillow.

School Shopping Tip:

We are in the middle of August and it is time again to start shopping for school supplies.  Make this a fun experience for the kids.  Select bright colored portfolios, pencil boxes, file folders, 3x5 card holders, and lunch boxes.  Then let the kids personalize them with fabric cutouts, stickers, holographic paper, beaded name tags, and punch-out paper shapes.
